Welcome
A stunning pub on the Teign Estuary Shoreline
Named after the ‘Ness’ rocky outcrop that towers over it – so named because it resembles a nose or ‘nez’ in French – the Ness is a Grade II listed Inn located on the South West Coast Path in the picturesque seaside village of Shaldon, with stunning views over the Teign Estuary.
The house was originally built in 1810 as the summer home of the Clifford family (on land owned by Lord Clifford who was Charles II’s notorious treasurer and the ‘C’ in CABAL), rumour has it that the family subsequently enlarged their fortune through smuggling (via the smugglers tunnel which you can find just behind the Ness).
Today the Ness is the perfect place to rest and relax, whether it’s staying in one of our 9 bedrooms, basking in the sun in our beautiful terrace and garden, popping in for some refreshments after a day at the beach (only a couple of minutes’ walk away), or watching the winter storms roll in, in front of a roaring fire.
